Thanks to Lynn Ascher, Steve Allison-Brunell, Jim McGrath, others for their comments about the massive Brooks project. I agree that we shouldn't do it. As someone who's lived on Woodford over 20 years, my street and Blaine are much better "bike lanes" than Brooks and were even designated as such on a bike map widely distributed a few years ago. The traffic calming circles on these streets have reduced the crunching, crashing noises and reduced cars speeding around cyclists.

But a dangerous problem persists. It's the intersection at Higgins and Brooks + the side streets feeding into it. The Corner's parking garage, school buses, traffic heading downtown, parents dropping students off, and people walking to HHS every dark morning and tired afternoon add up to a nightmare for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. I'd like to see a cross walk at Roosevelt and Brooks, just to slow things down a bit, but I guess it's not possible, since Brooks is a state highway. Why not throw some highway stimulus funds at a problem like this rather than widening Brooks?
