While we don't want to "be" another community, we can learn from the
success of others:
Economists see tech companies as a saving grace in Bozeman
economy <http://matr.net/article-38004.html>
Bozeman has a very vibrant and proactive tech transfer program at MSU
and an incubator, Tech Ranch (http://www.techranch.org) which have spun
out many successful companies in Bozeman.
The U of M just hired a new tech transfer officer, Dr. Joe Fanguy
<http://matr.net/article-37134.html>, who has a large inventory of R&D
success that needs mentors and entrepreneurs to move them into, first,
the Missoula incubator MonTEC ( http://www.montec.org ) and then the
Missoula community to compete in the global markets.
A goal for the Council should be to help promote the opportunities
available at the U of M and encourage the Missoula investor (Hellgate
Angel Network) , business and professional community to support them.
Missoula has an incredible opportunity to "grow its own sustainable
world class businesses" that we've paid lip service to for too long....
