There are few streets in town that have right of way as wide as Stephens. All that room makes it easy to design a street with multimodal facilities.

Good Points Jonathan,

Can you make a really cool looking sign that would be more than a traffic symbol? I am thinking something in line with the Great Harvest Yep and Nope sign. It gets the point across but is not boring.

I agree with you as well on the Phillips Street vehicle/bike "killers" that were installed. What was city engineering thinking (of lack there of) with the design of the median concrete obstacles. I am a big supporter of Bulb-outs for pedestrian safety and have designed and installed some for developments in town. The very poorly thought out versions of bulb outs installed this summer has turned into a spectacular example of cost over function. City Engineering should have looked at what makes the bulb outs safe for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians more closely before installing them this summer. I think Stephens is a great example of how to design a good multi model traffic system. (The lighting not included) I ride my bike down and across it every day in the summer with my children. It has adequate room for bikes and cars but still provides a safe means of crossing for Pedestrians. City Engineering can pat them selves on the back for that street. Why is it so hard to replicate across town is the issue that is confounding me.

Sincerely,
David V. Gray
