We had 2 topics yesterday:
Topic 1- Approve some change orders from the Parks Department. These included minor changes in construction costs at both White Pine Park and Pineview Park.
Topic 2- Greenhouse Gas and Energy Conservation Team (GGECT). We have spent 3 weeks interviewing candidates to fill 3 vacant positions on this committee. I feel bad for taking so long (if any of the applicants are reading this, please accept my apologies) but it's just really hard to get 6 people available all at once during the summer time. So it's taking a while. We interviewed the final applicant, who like so many other applicants for this committee, is freakishly qualified. We have an embarrassment of riches from which to choose.
I think I mentioned last week that this committee is becoming more and more focused and active, so we are also discussing expanding the membership. It's looking like we will add one more voting member and one more alternate. The committee is composed of folks from the following "sectors": Conservation, Government, Transportation, Industry and a sector called "Commercial/Institutional/Business". We are thinking it would make sense to split that last one into "Institutional" and then "Commercial/Business".
Here is the page that describes the GGECT http://www.ci.missoula.mt.us/index.aspx?NID=492
Projects they are working on now include a resolution on using local wood, a joint program with Missoula In Motion to increase city employee ridership on Mountain Line, unveiling of the City of Missoula Green Tags project, and hopefully soon, promoting information/incentives for people to make their homes more energy efficient.
Thanks for your interest.
Marilyn
