Subj: Action Alert--Senate to Vote Early This Afternoon on Legislation to Provide Historic IDEA Funding Increase
[cid:X.MA1.1234283174 at aol.com]
Senate to Vote Early This Afternoon on Legislation to Provide Historic IDEA Funding Increase
Early this afternoon (2/10), the Senate is expected to vote on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) - better known as the economic stimulus package - which would provide unprecedented increases for special education (IDEA Part B, Section 619, Part C). Urge your Senators to VOTE YES!<http://capwiz.com/cek/issues/alert/?alertid=12645926>
ARRA would more than double funding for IDEA's grants to states program (Part B), preschool program (Section 619) and early intervention program (Part C) over two years. At this time of economic crisis, programs serving children and youth with disabilities are often cut, further straining systems that have been stretched thin for years. Take Action Now!<http://capwiz.com/cek/home/>
Next Steps
If the Senate passes its version of ARRA, the House and Senate will work to iron out the differences between their two bills - of which there are many. House and Senate leaders have publically stated their desire to provide a bill for President Obama to sign into law by President's Day.
