Action Alert: Success stories needed for CEC's Federal Outlook for
Exceptional Children
The deadline to submit stories is January 15, 2007. Stories should be
submitted to kimk at cec.sped.org <mailto:kimk at cec.sped.org>

Please see Kim¹s message below.

We hope you had a happy and healthy holiday and New Year's -- and enjoyed
some much needed time off!! But it's time to get back to work and we need
your help in collecting success stories for CEC's Federal Outlook for
Exceptional Children! Please pass this message along to members of your
network.

Year after year Congress under funds special and gifted education --
breaking its 31-year-old promise to students with disabilities and educators
who work on their behalf and threatens to slash, if not eliminate, the ONLY
Federal program addressing the needs of gifted students.

The Outlook provides an opportunity for you and members of your network to
demonstrate how critical funding is for IDEA and the Javits program.

Every year CEC produces the Federal Outlook for Exceptional Children -- an
advocacy tool that provides a funding history, forecast, and CEC's
recommendations for special and gifted education programs. The Outlook is
distributed to all 535 Congressional offices, officials at the U.S.
Department of Education and is used as an advocacy tool by CEC members and
staff. As Congress begins its deliberations over next year's funding levels
for special and gifted education, the Outlook provides decision makers with
CEC's recommended funding levels which would get all Parts of IDEA on a path
towards reaching full funding and would provide increased funding for the
Javits program.

To increase the impact of the Outlook, stories of actual children and youth
are woven throughout to put a face on funding facts and figures.
It is critical that we collect success stories of children and youth who
have benefited from IDEA and the Javits program for students with gifts and
talents -- please do not miss this opportunity to have your state/division
represented in this year's Outlook.

The deadline to submit stories is January 15, 2007. Stories should be
submitted to kimk at cec.sped.org <mailto:kimk at cec.sped.org>

Stories are intended to be short (approximately 250 words) and illustrate
how Federal funding of special (IDEA) and gifted (Javits program) education
has positively impacted a child. In addition, please include how the under
funding of these programs has impacted your school, district, etc.
