Submit an IDEA Success Story for CEC¹s 2008 Federal Outlook for Exceptional
Children
Please submit success stories to: Kim Krocker-Hymes, Council for Exceptional
Children, 1110 N. Glebe Rd. #300, Arlington, VA 22201 or via email:
kimk at cec.sped.org. Please remember to include a photo and photo release form
when submitting stories. The deadline for submitting stories is January 15,
2007.

Every year, CEC publishes the Federal Outlook for Exceptional Children,
which provides an overview of federally funded programs IDEA and Javits
grants that impact the lives of children and youth with disabilities
and/or gifts and talents. The Outlook is distributed to members of Congress,
federal agencies and other leaders in the education community with the hope
that a better understanding of such programs will lead to increased support
and advocacy for services for children with disabilities and giftedness.

Success stories. Woven throughout the Outlook are personal stories and
photos of students participating in special education, early intervention
and gifted education programs across the country. These success stories help
put a human touch on the graphs and charts that typically illustrate the
need for increased funding for programs such as IDEA and Javits grants for
gifted and talented students.
As CEC prepares for the 2008 edition of the Outlook, we need your help in
collecting success stories!
* Success Story Guidelines:
* Success stories should include the student¹s full name, age, city and
state in which they live and their school/district.
* Success stories should be approximately 250 words.
* Success stories may be submitted by anyone in contact with a student with
disabilities and/or gifts and talents (with parent¹s permission)
including, teachers, related service providers, school administrators and
parents.
* Success stories should show the benefits these students have received
under IDEA or the Javits Gifted and Talented Students Act, regardless of
their placement or services they have received.
* Success stories may also include projects under IDEA part D, such as PTI
Programs and Assistive Technology programs, and the benefits of these
programs.
* Success stories may include how the need for increased federal funding is
critical, as Congress has failed to provide the 40 percent of funding for
IDEA that they have repeatedly promised.
* Success stories should be submitted with an accompanying action photo of
the student in the classroom or in an early intervention setting. Please,
not ³head shots². Photo releases must be submitted with photo.
* The deadline for submitting stories is January 15, 2007.
Our goal is to make special education, early intervention, and
gifted/talented education real to put actual faces and names to the
population known as ³students with exceptionalities.² Many legislators have
told us that our CEC Budget Book has allowed them to see what special
education, early intervention, and gifted/talented education is really all
about, and we¹d like to continue that education process.

Please submit success stories to: Kim Krocker-Hymes, Council for Exceptional
Children, 1110 N. Glebe Rd. #300, Arlington, VA 22201 or via email:
kimk at cec.sped.org. Please remember to include a photo and photo release form
when submitting stories. The deadline for submitting stories is January 15,
2007.
